LETS SCRAP CHALLENGES

Hi there again everyone

As well as completing convention pages I have also done a couple of challenges from Let's Scrap. This first one was last weeks challenge. Here is the sketch.

This is what I did with it.

I am not a huge card maker but I love the fact that you can use all your leftovers to make them :D I love the coral and green together too. I made the rosette flower and added a little ribbon flower to the centre and finished off with a pearl.

This next one wasn't for a challenge but I thought as I had made pages for my other brothers I had to do one for Dave... He had this guitar in the corner of the room and I took some photos of it.

I used plain white cardstock and used a bit of olive green (yes really - I know it looks more yellow :()) and then I used a music stamp that I have. I often take photos of random things and they are more often than not my favourite pages. This is definitely one of them.

This next page is for the latest DT challenge that is being run my Martha Sterbens and the brief is... to use things that you would normally cook with..:D I love a challenge.

This is what I did.... I mod podged a napkin onto a sheet of white Bazzill using a basting brush, I then covered it with a layer of gesso. I dipped a pizza cutter into blue paint and ran lines across the bottom of the page and up the right hand side. I cut open a cupcake liner for the "crown" at the top of the circle and also cut two hearts from another one, as well as two photo corners. I cute the green hearts from the cardstock of the circle. The silver piece at the bottom of the page is from a cake base which I then layered with ribbon.
The flowers on the green hearts are icing flowers ( did podge them so the ants don't get to them - so I hope it works:)) I did my journalling on a recipe card and then finished it off with cupcake liner flowers in white and pink. I scrunched them up and wound wire around the base and made stems. Title and some bling finish it off. I just loved this challenge and I think it is great to think outside the box.

This is this weeks sketch and I am busy with my page now. Feel free to play along.

I will be back tomorrow with more.

CONVENTION PAGES

Hello Everyone

Well it is Wednesday again already and I still feel like I am chasing my tail. At least I have finished all the convention pages. I have also completed a couple of pages for Let's Scrap so I will stop jabbering.

This page belonged to the page in the previous post with my brother on it. I didn't like the two pages together so I split them and created two single pages which I am much happier with. I loved these two but not together. I really liked the little flowers we made with circles, because you can create flowers for any pages that you are doing. I will cover those a little later too.

I tweaked this page a little too, I really liked it as well - more now that I have changed it. I am going to use this page for photos from my friend Des's birthday. I just need to get the photos and I will add them.

I just loved this file folder project too, but I had to tweak this a bit too. I am very happy with the finished thing and I am sending it to Ali, my sister in law and it has photos of our girls trip to Belfast. I know she will love it.

As you open up the file folder this is what you see. On the left hand side another folder has been cut in half and attached here with another folder on top with the discover flag on it, so it all sits very nicely... Except that I made mine upside down :( well I do like to be different :)

I have used the top folder to begin our trip with photos from our day trip around Belfast.

If you open that file there is another pocket inside with some photos of our hotel in it. The two front tags are loose and I have journalled on the backs of them.

The other side of the folder looks like this with the other half of the second folder placed on this page in the bottom half. I have decorated the front with a tag, a couple of flags and a photo of our drive up.

This half file also opens up to show some pages that were added and I have used these pages to highlight the things we did on the different days.

This photo shows the second and third pages.

This one shows the last two pages

The brown strip that you can see in the middle is just a little fold on the middle for added photos or ephemera or quotes.

I coloured the file folders with pan pastels in pink, green and blue to match the papers, I also coloured the tags the same way. I really loved this project and I think I may do something like this for me too.

INSPIRATION OF THE WEEK

Good Morning Everyone

For those of you that live in South Africa I do hope that you will be braaing with people you love on this wonderful National Heritage Day. For those of you that have to work where ever you are I hope you have a great day too.

This is a quick post for me to brag :) Not lady like I know but I don't care. I want to share with you all one of the layouts that I have just finished to celebrate my special relationship with my sister in law Ali. I don't have a sister I have three brothers, two of whom are married and one of them to this very special lady that I am blessed to have as my friend. I love you Ali. :D

Anyway this layout was chosen as this weeks Inspiration of the Week. Thank you Janet Gregory for choosing my page. So go on over to Let's Scrap and have a look. I made this layout for Ali so she knows how special she is to me.

I used papers from Teresa Collins and I think that these could be my favourite colours at the moment. Her papers are wonderful. I have used some hand sewing on this page. Punched a border. Used a lace strip and made some washi tape to match. I love this technique that we learned at the convention and I am going to do a separate post on it because I think that it is just wonderful. I also made a pleated flower and a rolled ribbon flower for the center.

Thanks for stopping by.

DAY TWO

Sitting patiently at our table :) waiting for the next day of classes. Looking bright eyed and bushy tailed.

We had Tracie Hudson - Authentique - another gorgeous paper range.

Of course we  had to have a vodka jelly for each class...Cheers girls :D

We had Amber Crowell from Simple Stories... one of my favourite ranges of papers.

And last but by no means least we had Amy Tan and her project was just so bright and so much fun.

I just love these weekends away with the girls and even though I had only been home for three days before leaving my very long suffering husband at home alone once again I was happy to get home on Sunday night, and fell into bed after a lovely hot bath.

It has really taken me a bit to get back into the swing of things but I finally feel now that I am making some headway. I am back into scrapping and loving it and here are the first of my convention pages.

This first one was the Bo Bunny page and I only did the one side. I love the bright colours but for me the second page was like a separate page. I may finish it later I will see.

I think that this layout was my favourite from the whole convention. I love the colours and the white space and the layering. Just my style and I love it.

This one was also a contender for favourite of the convention but for me the double page didn't work so I have done my two pages as separate pages and I love both of them

I have finished the other page but it is too dark to photograph it so I will do it in the morning and post tomorrow.

SA SCRAPBOOK CONVENTION

We started bright and early on Saturday morning and we were blown away by the organisation and the effort that Glenda Viljoen and her team put into organising this event. We arrived at our table - right in the front of the room - and got so many goodies.

The theme this year was air travel and we were in the England room and we were blue - much to my delight.

We were thoroughly spoiled with the goodies we received. Our entrance into the classes was a little passport which was stamped for each class.

Our first class was with Kerrie Gurney from Australia - Creative Design Team for Couture Creations, and I loved her and her class. I am wading my way through the projects and will post as soon as I have done them all.

Then we had some Bo Bunny hotness in the form of Matt Lanoy. His page was so bright and cheerful. Another fun class.

Then we had Trisha Ladouceur from Pink Paisley.

After a long and tiring day and a few obligatory vodka jellies. Well one for each class at least....

It was time to go for a very yummy strawberry daiquiri and some dinner.

And then another early night hahahahahahaha. See you tomorrow again.

HOME AGAIN

Hello Everyone,

Well I am home again, in fact I have been home for two weeks already and it has taken me this long to settle back down again. Firstly, it feels as if I have been away forever, six weeks is a long time and I really had every GOOD intention of blogging while I was away. This proved much more difficult that I anticipated so it just never happened. I got home to a very sick son - who had bronchitis and an ailing hubby who got bronchitis which then turned to pneumonia. The first weekend back was also our annual Scrapbook Convention so I feel as though my feet have not touched ground yet.

I really loved my time away and I had the most amazing holiday, we travelled a lot, took loads of photos and ate and drank plenty - but - the weather was truly awful there. It is their summer and the average temperature while I was there was 12.5.... SERIOUSLY our winters here have temps in the 20's,  and it rained every day - so sometimes taking photos was a little difficult.

This is what greeted me when I got home - grey skies :(  But on the upside just have a look at the jasmine that is right outside my studio door. It is just glorious, and the heavenly perfume just fills the air in my studio. Happiness is....

So I am going to start with the convention because I am still wading through all my holiday photos.

It was the usual TT girls Ils, myself, Des and Cher in the front.. plus Tiff came back from Durban to join us for the first time since she left Johannesburg to go and live in Duban.  I have to just say that these weekends away are for me the very best therapy.

We went to Emperors Palace at midday on Friday and met at our usual convention haunt for lunch and the first of our wonderful cocktails... strawberry daiquiris.

and yes they are a yummy as they looked and we ate a leisurely lunch of yummy goodness. After which we were able to book into our rooms at the hotel. All the rooms are similar to this one and are very pretty except for the fact that the loo and the shower are just behind that curtain in the room, but that is another story altogether :D

Once we were settled and unpacked we met downstairs in the bar to open our goodie bags. Each year we do these and the gifts can be anything that we think the girls would like, they don't have to be scrapping related. This is a very rowdy affair and much enjoyed by all of us.

All the bags and the wrappings and where possible the gifts are colour coded for the girls who have preferences of colour (NO names will be mentioned here ok Ils :D)

These were my gifts and they were so pretty and so useful and so different.

And.... in celebration of the weekend and true sisterhood the occasion was marked with a shooter, a blow job to be exact and they were very delicious. Now was time to register for the convention and a little retail therapy before dinner.

Dinner was much like all the other meals, loud and noisy and full of laughter and friendship and bonding and of course this time mojito's which were so nice... Wonder who the bloody mary was for :D and I hate to tell you but we were all in bed by 7:30... yes I know it was lame but we are all mothers with children and hubby's and demanding lives and how nice to be able to get into bed that early with NO guilt and either read, talk or watch a bit of TV without interruption of any kind. Plus we had a big day ahead of us and a girl needs her beauty sleep.

I will be back tomorrow with the next instalment :) Have I told you how happy I am to be back and doing what I love doing. Well I am very happy to be back and doing what I love doing.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend wherever you are and whatever you are doing.
