DISCOVER

Hello Everyone

Today I have two projects to show you :) It is Wednesday which means there is a new sketch challenge over at  Let's Scrap and this weeks sketch is done by Debby de Wilde.

A great card sketch I am sure you will agree ...

Here is my card. I don't think I strayed too far off the mark this week :) I used papers left over from the layout I posted yesterday... I think that these Theresa Collins papers are just beautiful, I added a quote that says...' In this life we cannot always do great things, but we can do small things with great love'. Mother Theresa.
I added a couple of flowers and butterflies and a flair button that says 'This matters, it's important'.

I also have my layout for SATW  reveal  number 4 from Scrap Around The World Designer Eila Sandberg together with an unusual sketch from their resident sketch designer, Jules McKenna-De Lumen!

Here is my layout.

OK - So I may have taken a few liberties with the interpretation this month but here goes... I loved the soft colours of the feathers, that was what initially caught my eye and because of those colours I knew exactly what photo I wanted to scrap but in my photo the flowers were way more pink so I made a slight adjustment to the colours... :D I just don't like photos cut into circles... must be from when I first was introduced to scrapping where the photos were cut into all shapes... Yikes! What were they thinking? Anyway... So I opted to use circles behind my photo, which I cut into four and raised one of the panels, instead.

My journalling on the back of the layout says:

'Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away'... and this was one such moment. When I travel I like to see all the main attractions like everyone else but I also like to take time just to wander the streets and shops really getting the feel of the place and discovering all it has to offer. It is a bit like going into a second hand shop and unexpectedly finding that exquisite piece, your breath comes out in an aaaaahhhh and then catches as you gather your senses together and try and process what you have in front of you. Doesn't matter what it is that causes you to react that way either, can be a sight, a sound, a smell or even a taste or a touch but those are the moments that make our lives special. This was one of those moments.

We were in Bayeux on a Sunday and in rural France NOTHING opens on a Sunday but we knew that the Bayeux Tapestry Museum was open and I really wanted to see it. We arrived and found a parking very close to the church which was magnificent after we had finished at the church and museum we found a little Brasserie to have a late lunch, and came upon this by taking a left instead of a right.

A little river lined with leafy green trees, dappled sunlight glinting off the water, the water wheel, boxes of flowers and a gate. A truly beautiful little oasis  right in the center of the town. I don't think that the photo does it justice and nor do my words...

Here are some close-ups of my layout.

I bought these papers last week with this photo in mind too and there is no name on the back so I have no idea whose they are but they are so pretty. I used the greed strip as the background and cut it slightly shorter than the khaki colour.  The doilies were the perfect colour too and the circles were cut using the scalloped nestabilities. The chippie circles was a long strip that I cut up and painted then added micro beads and inking. The  title is Basic Grey letter stickers.

I found this really cool stencil at Decorex last weekend and I mixed some khaki paint into it and I love the movement it creates... I found this definition in my stash..
dis-cover (dis kuv'er)n 1 to see or learn of for the first time; find out 2 to recognize or realize the best things in life  - and it was number 2 that did it for me. The flowers are clustered with some gauze and leaves.

I am also entering this layout into the Frosted Designs challenge which is to use chipboard on your project... I have used the chipboard rings on this layout :D

Thanks for stopping by to take a look and for leaving the comments that you do. Makes my day :D

  9. Love it! And they say you can interpret the sketch, so good on you for doing so! My fave bit is the flower cluster underneath...that is breath-taking...probably not as much as the view you saw when you turned the wrong way...but still very, very lovely:):):)

  11. Love your interpretation of both sketches, Val! Like you, sometimes I can keep pretty close to the sketch, yet other times, I just need to "make it my own." Your card is thoughtful and gorgeous! Your travel layout has the most amazing photograph, a wee secret place you discovered simply by wandering off the path! By the way, your Mother Teresa quote is one of my favorites and I am planning on using it in the art journal I am preparing for my granddaughter--just waiting for the right page to present itself!
