CALENDAR 2014

Hello Everyone,

Yes I am back again with another post :) I have been a very busy bee.

I don't know about you but I still like to have a real calendar so that I can see what I have to do and when. I have it on my computer as well but I like to be able to see a month at a glance and so these calendars, that we had printed and started a while back, work very well for me.
Each year I print of a set of the twelve months and I can put the dates in and do a new front cover. At the end of the year the cover goes into an album and I am ready to start the next year.

I used these papers from a paper pack I got from DCWV Tea Party and the colours are perfect for my studio. Of course I used pics of my new babies because that is by far and away the BIGGEST thing that has happened this year and I want to see this moment again and again.

I did some inking through a stencil on the background page... the little circles at the bottom right have come out the best.... I also used one of my new TH stencils with the dashes and Vintage Rose distress ink but you can't really see it in the photo it is very subtle.

Here are some close ups

I layered some tags and fussy cut the bird the title "You're my cup of TEA" was raised with foam tape.

I fussy cute the stack of tea cups from one of the sheets of paper.

The flowers were added plus some fussy cut leaves from one of the sheets...
The quote at the bottom of the page says
"Savour love sip by sip not gulp by gulp"

Here is what the inserts look like ... so now I can add the dates and all my things I need to do/remember.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look. :)

WELCOME

Hello Again :)
Yes I am back with another post... This one should have gone out last night but we had no electricity so I could not post... so here it is now.
There is a new challenge up at Let's Scrap hosted by Susanna Granroth and the challenge is to create a layout inspired by this photo.

I took my inspiration from the colours in this photo... the blue of the tablecloth, the red of the lobsters (I went with the lightest ones and the hearts  on the paper towel and the fact that the lady is taking a photo with a phone...

Here is what I came up with. I used this Let's Scrap Sketch.

Here is my layout.

I used papers from the Carte Bella range which were perfect.
I took the photos with my phone...

My journalling says....
I don't think there are words to describe the feeling you get when you see your Grandies for the first time. Spencer and Paige are just perfect... button noses and pouty lips. Ten perfect fingers and ten perfect toes. It was love at first sight.

On the back I have written...
Our first glimpse of the twins was as they were being wheeled from the theatre to the neonatal ICU. Dr Greef stopped so we could get a quick look at them and a photo. It was such an emotional time for all of us and to finally see them was just so overwhelming I can't really explain it all... the whole range of emotions from wanting to cry as I realised my own little boy was a dad himself and the fact that that creates another change for me to absolute wonder at these two beautiful little humans before me who are a complete miracle and everything in between. Now as I look back I don't really remember so much about that first encounter it was so rushed and so emotional. We finally got to go and see them in neonates on Thursday night and we spent some time with them. I don't think that sense of wonder at seeing a new life will ever change. It was absolutely love at first sight.

Here are some close-ups.

I created the splats with Distress Ink by TH in  Chipped Sapphire. I layered up the journalling cards behind the two little photos as a photo mat.
I coloured some seam binding ribbon with my distress inks in Wild Honey, and added that down the side.

I added lace under the little people strip and I also filled a couple of the hearts with glitter... one for each baby :D
The flowers are from Prima, Petaloo and my stash..

Here is a close up of the journalling on the little card.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look. I love your visits.

CHRISTMAS

Hello Everyone,
I have another layout to share. This one was done with Glenda Viljoen at the RS&E Christmas Day... another layout that I changed to suit my style :) Sorry Glenda :)

I changed my photos from our Christmas getaway at Lords of the Manor into black and white and added them across the layout.

Here are some close ups.

The paper were from Basic Grey and are beautiful and soft for Christmas. I used some of the tickets from the ephemera sheet for down the side.

The trees were cut in different sizes and just stacked. I love the shadow chipboard pieces which were embossed and the shadow part was painted black and misted with a shimmery green.

I cut the pointsettia flowers out of red shimmery paper with my new die and I just love them.

Another layout done and dusted. I am trying to get all the half finished ones completed and put into albums and I am nearly there.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look :D

PERFECTION

Hello Everyone

Well we have had a hell of a week - in a good way :) and with this weeks case file from CSI I have the first layout of my precious grand babies.

I love the colour scheme for this week. Here is my layout.

Here is how I solved the case.
Scheme - the colours are all there.
Evidence - Flowers, heart, diamond, wet medium, harlequin pattern.
Testimony - Award Certificate.

Journalling (on the back of the layout)says...
'The award for perfection goes to...'
Spencer and Paige.
Two perfect little babies. Born on 21 January 2014 in the Sandton Medi Clinic at 12.40 and 12.42 pm. Paige first at 2.1 kgs and 44 cms long, Spence at 2.4 kgs and 41 cms long. 10 perfect little fingers and 10 perfect little toes. Sent straight to neonatal ICU on breathing machines and feeding tubes and under the UV lights. They made it to 34 weeks which was amazing given that Lin had Toxemia and extremely high blood pressure. These two are fighters and although they are off the breathing machines they are still being fed through tubes and are still under the lights. The pediatrician is so happy with them and says he will monitor them until the due date of 36 weeks which is in about 10 days. I can't even begin to explain the overwhelming love and awe that I felt at seeing my grandbabies for the first time... It is like nothing I have ever felt before and is completely different to what I felt with my own children. I can't wait until I can hold them in my arms - there is nothing in the world like the smell of a newborn baby. Overwhelming and completely consuming. So in love with these little fighters. Now we are a family of 8...

Here are some close ups.

The paper are from MME - Meadowlark range and were perfect for this weeks case file. I used my harlequin stencil on the background page with TH distress inks in Wild Honey and  Picked Raspberry. The heart was cute out of the script paper and the back one was covered in washi tape.

I used washi tape at the top and the bottom of the layout. The numbers one and a stripe. They were used for the banner too. The arrows are washi tape.

The title is thicker from American Crafts and the flowers are ones from my stash. I created the splats using TH distress stain in Picked Raspberry.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look. Have a wonderful weekend and hopefully things here will get back onto an even keel and I can get back to some creating :D

TOO HAPPY

Hello Everyone,

It has been a hectic few days and I have gotten behind on all my DT stuff.
The latest update is that Lin is stable and they are monitoring her constantly. They want to leave the babies in a bit longer but reckon they will be delivered this week and so we just wait.... patiently :)
It has been an emotional roller coaster of a few days but I think I am back on track now and today I have the new CSI case file for you.

Here it is.

Here is my layout.

Here is how I solved the case...
Scheme - the colours are all there.
Evidence - Ombre effect (papers and hearts),arrows, gold, circles, stripes, white background speech bubbles (used as leaves in the flowers).
Testimony - Inspo words - be and good.
Journalling (one the back of the layout) says:
It would be a good day for a wedding!
With the news that Lin was being admitted into hospital because she had toxemia and very high blood pressure and that the babies would be delivered on the weekend we all shifted into high gear to get their wedding moved forward. Originally scheduled for this morning at 9.00am in court we now had to find someone to come and marry them in the hospital on Friday.
Everyone pulled together and in a matter of hours we managed to pull of a wedding that was - just like most things we Thorpes do - unique, but also very special.
We got flowers, cake and champagne. Clint and Lin had Storm as both Bridesmaid and Best man - a job she executed with great flair and style. The rings were delivered to the hospital minutes before the ceremony and all the people closest to them were there to witness it all.
I don't think that the labour ward will ever be the same again. It was a hive of activity getting Lin ready for the biggest day of her life - until the babies come - and the nurses were fabulous.
It was over in an hour and we led a very happy but overwhelmed and exhausted Mrs Thorpe back to bed. It may not have been her perfect fairytale wedding but it will surely be one she will never forget. Now we just wait for the arrival of Spencer and Paige - sometime this week.
I am so proud of these two and the way that they have just handled everything that has come up calmly and with their usual sense of humour. I am one proud Mother in Law and I will be one proud Grandma...<3 you both.

Here are some close ups.

I went with the white background and the papers are the Hello Again range from Carta Bella and they were perfect for this weeks case file. I gessoed some hearts on the layout and water coloured them with the yellow to the red colour. I also made some spatters using  Mr Huey's mists in Aqua.

I tucked some speech bubbles among the flowers as leaves and the circle flower was cut with a new die. I don't know who the  balloons are by but they were perfect for the occasion and the palette.

Another angle to show the layers.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look.

LOVE

Hello Everyone

It is the 15th which means that the new Challenge #25 has been revealed over at Scrap Africa and here it is...A re-cycle challenge.

To use something re-cycled on your layout. Here is my layout.

My journalling (on the back of the layout) says:

I am delighted that Storm has found such a nice man. Although she has known Lloyd for a long time, they met at Varsity and they did a teaching prac together and they have been friends since then. They only started dating a couple of months ago and it is so nice to see that they enjoy one anothers company and that this time it seems to be an equal partnership. He treats her so nicely and he has such an easy, likeable way about him. He fits into our family so well and I am overjoyed to finally see her so relaxed and happy in a relationship. I love this pic of them taken in Ballito on Storms birthday this year.

Here are some close-ups.

I used kraft and cream cardstock and the pattern papers are from MME - The washline range I think, and the glittery green is just from my stash and I don't know whose it is :D

I used an acetate tag from a piece of clothing I bought from Poetry and I  stamped an image onto it with brown Stazon ink. The ribbon was also taken from the loops to hang T-shirts up with.

The heart was cut from a cardboard box and covered with some of the glitter paper, and the banner was cut of some Prima flower packaging. I love that nothing goes to waste in scrapbooking.

There is some wonderful inspiration from the rest of the DT over at Scrap Africa, so why don't you take a look and play along.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look :)

HOW TO MAKE YOUR BOY HAPPY

Hello Everyone

I am slowly getting back into the swing of things after the silly season and today I have the new case file from CSI. I have to say that this weeks palette was a bit of a challenge for me and there is such amazing inspiration from the DT over there so take a look and play along with us.

This weeks case file comes with another sketch from Em Starface.

Here is my layout.

Here is how I solved the case...
Scheme - the colours are all there (even the green - a tiny little brad)
Evidence - Stars, circles, stitching, book page (button)
Testimony - Write a 'How to' guide.

The journalling on the back of my layout says:

How to make my boy happy...
1 Make my blog even more awesome by including more pages on him - check.
2 Allow him to come out on top with the banter on Facebook - check.
3 Make sure to give him credit for photos taken by him that I use or post - check
4 Make sure to phone him occasionally just to say hello and not to ask for something - I am still working on this one.
5 Make sure that I sit next to him while watching movies. He gives the best foot rub ever. - Oh wait that makes me happy. And when the mommy is happy EVERYONE is happy :) win-win
6 Find some awesome markets to visit on Sundays - hmmm he does that too... Thank you my boy.
7 Love his fiance like he does - check - Big win for the mommy ;) Makes my boy VERY happy.
8 Find something to do together that is just so the two of you can spend time together alone - We have photography and we love it and it makes both of us happy - win-win.
9 Take his side in all family disputes no matter what the topic - Check.
10 Just love my boy - Check.
He is one happy boy. He makes me laugh. He makes me proud. He makes me mad. He is thoughtful. He is kind. He is generous. He is considerate. He has the best sense of humour. He is intelligent and above all he has a good EQ which makes everyone love him too.
Perhaps this should have said how to make your mom happy. I love you to the moon and back Clinton Thorpe Charles :P

Here are some close-ups.

I used washi tape up the sides of the layout and the quote was stamped onto cardstock. I found the stars in my stash and covered the mustard one in washi tape and the blue one in cardstock.

I added the brads and a couple of splats and one tiny green brad to bring in that colour.

The title is stickers and chipboard painted black. I added some gesso and distress stain runs. I think this is probably the first layout I have ever done that doesn't have flowers on it. I only had the two stars in my stash too. I am going to have to rectify that quick.

Thanks for popping in to take a look.

RETREAT

Hello Everyone

It's Friday and there is a new Challenge up at Let's Scrap hosted by Michelle Looi.. My mojo was still on Christmas break and it took me three days and three goes to get a layout out... what the hell is that. I have whipped Mojo's butt into shape and hopefully we understand one another now :)

The challenge is to be inspired by this photograph

You need to create a layout using a Let's Scrap Sketch and three elements inspired by this photo.

I used this sketch.

I rotated it 45 degrees and came up with this.

This was the inspiration I took from the photo for my layout.

I love buildings and architecture and I chose to use this photo that I took from our recent trip to Lords of the Manor for Christmas. I love this place just so beautiful and peaceful. Those were the main things I took from the photo. I also used the fencing, vines, colours from the photo. Shapes of the bushes with the circles.

The quote on the layout (above the photo) says:
The most beautiful view is the one I share with you...

My journalling on the back of the layout says.
I fell in love with this place the first time that we went there at the beginning of the year and this was the third time we had been back. The beautiful architecture, stunning scenery and warmth of Brian and Louise who run the place all make it a place that I want to spend time. I love the peace and quiet it is a place to take a good book and lie by the pool in the summer or in front of a roaring fire in the winter and just relax. They have retained their English style, the rooms are cosy and inviting, tea is served in the afternoons with scones, jam and clotted cream. Drinks served in the bar before going in to dinner and the food is just delicious. I love that every time I have been there I feel like I am visiting an old friend.

Here are some close-ups.

The papers I used were from a DCWV paper pack that I got from somewhere but they were great for the colours in the photo. I used some Burlap ribbon and some Prima flowers to replicate vines. The punched border is a Fiskars punch and the purple flowers were white that I misted using an Adirondak mist.

The chipboard fence and the title are from Celebra8 and Enmarc. I also added a couple of big brads.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look and I hope you pop over to Let's Scrap and take part in the challenge.

LOVE

Hello Everyone
Back with another reveal today... for Black with 2 and they have updated their look... check it out. We are kicking the year off with a totally new mood board with a different concept of inspiration for you .
The challenge is still the same criteria black with the chosen 2 colours , but we have thrown in a sketch and a monthly word to spice things up a little .

Here are the rules .....
Black background
2 colours Sand + Seafoam
5% white
Use the word LOVE in your journalling or Title
Follow our sketch ..
and draw inspiration from the image .
Here is the mood board

Here is my layout.

Love painted toes and pretty shoes.

That pretty much sums me up. Feet are the first thing that I notice about people and for me there is nothing nicer than well cared for feet in pretty shoes. Just one of my weaknesses. I have not been without painted nails since the day that I left school. I change the colour often and I have worn every colour of the rainbow, depending on my mood, from French to black, blinged up or with nail art. I love change and I love to be different. It is the little things in life that bring us the most joy, and for me this is no exception. This photo sums me up perfectly, this is who I am and you have to admit those are very pretty shoes :D
Here are some close-ups.

I sprayed the black card with a Lindy's Stamp Gang Mist in a sand colour and used washi tape at the top and bottom of the layout and also to hold the photos in place. The title was sprayed with the same mist, I love the shimmer it has.

I added more washi at the bottom of the photos and finished off with flowers and bling.

Thanks for popping in to take a look.
