It's the weeeekeeeend baby... and as promised here are the first two completed pages from the Convention this year. Although I have changed the pages a bit I have kept to the same sort of layouts. I like my pages to be linear and uncluttered on the whole.

I loved this page and used our pictures from our visit to Paris a couple of years ago. These colours are so me.

This page I changed quite a bit but I loved all the cool things they showed us. Behind the main picture was a pop up card using the round template with the heart and the wings, but I wasn't too keen on that. I am not big into hidden photos because I feel they are wasted in an album or a frame.  I also loved the use of the Tim Holtz concertina flowers which on the original page formed a banner. I love the end result and I really loved the colour of this page. We used cuttlebug folders and also lots of glitter on the butterflies.

I will post some of the mini albums next week. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

Hello Wednesday... the song says "the wheels of the bus go round and round" but I don't think that these wheels are going anywhere - much less round and round.

Earlier this year when us girls went to Mabula for a week of chilling and scrapping we came across this old yellow bus at a little farm stall, and being committed scrappers we could not pass up the opportunity for a photo (ok more than a photo).

Finally I got around to scrapping the pictures and I love how it turned out. I was seriously intimidated by the fact that the pictures were very yellow and yellow is not a colour I wear, have in my house or like to scrap with., which is funny considering I love yellow. It is such a happy cheerful colour. I found the patterned paper on the bargain table at Scrap Therapy where we scrap and it was perfect for the page, and it was cheap too :D

I tell you I am scrapping up a storm, and it is pretty dam scary. So till next time - have fun.

Good morning Tuesday, welcome to my world. I cant believe that we are already at the end of September and before we now it it will be Christmas again. I know, I know there are already Smart Alec's out there telling me how many weeks to go. I don't want to know :D

I am learning to live in the NOW. Not worrying about next week or next month or next year. Just today and just now. And right here right now it is a wonderful spring day. I love that everything in my garden is starting to sprout leaves and buds and the grass is turning green and I can leave my studio doors onto the garden open.

Have have created another page on my latest obsession. My little Karma. She is just the cutest little thing, I had to take her to the vet this morning for her next lot of jabs. In the month or so that we have had her she has grown so much and now weighs 2.5 kgs, when we got her she was just 1.5 kgs. I had to take the other three with me to the vet for their annual jabs. A bit tricky with four dogs, in the car, when all of them want to sit on your lap. Thank God for my domestic worker Stephen who came with me. Anyway, enough of that.

The pictures were taken on the paving at the flat at the coast and there were orange blossoms on the ground that she was fascinated by and this paper just worked perfectly.

I have finished most of the projects from the convention and I will be posting them over the next couple of days.

Thanks for stopping by

Hello everyone, I know I haven't posted in over a month. What can I say I have some serious issues at the moment. Truth is I am not sure what I want to use this blog for or what I hope to get out of it. It seems to me to be a bit one sided like writing in a journal - which is the whole point I know, but it just seems to be a bit fruitless. So over the past month I have done some serious soul searching and come to amazing realizations - well I think that they are amazing. I called it Val-Belle's Ramblings for a reason - so that I could ramble on and on about whatever. So here goes nothing.

I have been severely depressed. Stemming, I realized, from my weight issues! Arrrrgggggg - there I said it. With the gentle prodding and strong support of one of the most amazing people I am blessed to have in my life and in my TT group WE (Cher and I) embarked on a weight loss journey. In three months I have lost 10 kgs and I feel like a different person, and while I want to lose a few more I have found that I have more energy, I want to go out of the house again, I am able to create once more and I am loving life again. I truly never realized just how much it affected me, and I don't know how to thank her for seeing where I was and helping me out of it. I am posting two photos here, one from the convention last year and one from this year.

I have't felt so good in myself for a very long time, and I never want to get that big again. There, rant over.
So I am going to post twice a week to begin with, a little less daunting than trying to do it every day with something new that I have made. Even if I do play 24/7. I never remember to take pics of what I am doing.

I have nearly finished all the pages from the Convention which was fantastic as always. So I will start by posting those projects.

Have a wonderful humpday.

I don't know why I have so few photos from my childhood, but I do. Last week I sat and sorted them all out as best as I could, as I don't have anyone to ask about them anymore. I also really want to scrap them and this is going to force me to do single pages AND to have them in an album. I am already starting to hyperventilate, but maybe I will get over it.

While I was sorting them I found these two photos of me on my first day of school. I remembered the school uniform then I started to remember things about the school I went to. So I am going to scrap single pages because there really are not enough photos to do double pages.

It's blowing a gale outside and so for me it is a perfect day to scrap.

I have really been struggling with creativity, or a lack of creativity, for some time now. I sit in my studio and arrange and re-arrange stuff instead of just diving in and doing something. So last week I decided if I couldn't do it on my own I would just scraplift a layout that I loved and so I did and this is the result. I saw this layout by Kirsten Casey in the Scrapbooking Memories magazine and I loved it. I had such fun scrapping again.

After completing this page I felt really inspired to do some more and managed to come up with one of my own.

I have so many photos to scrap and so much stuff in my studio and I think that can be totally overwhelming. I spent the weekend gathering all of my photos and sorting them into piles either by event or by person. I have filed them all and I am going to put them into sleeves with paper that matches and a sketch of something that I want to do. I also realise that with some of the photos from my childhood where there are only one or two I am going to have to get over my "thing" of doing single pages. Happy scrapping or rather happy crafting.

I really love the new Washi tape and I have not seen it anywhere here and this is what happened when I tried different mediums on normal masking tape. First I cut strips of masking tape and put it on my teflon craft mat.

The top one I chalked with a pink. Although it has got a slight pink tinge to it it did not cover very well at all. I think that the chalk is just to powdery for this, unless of course you just want a very subtle colour. The second one down I painted with a peachy water colour, and although this one was also pretty light I think that the effect is quite nice and would change depending on what colour you used.  The third one down I painted with a green acrylic paint. This for me was the best coverage, and finally the last one I used one of the new Adirondak spray colours that I have. I think I sprayed this from too close and all I got was a very blotchy, unattractive mess, so I just used a paint brush to even it up. Next time I will try it from higher up and hopefully will get a fine spattering. All in all not bad results.

Next I transferred the tape to paper so it would show up better and then I stamped onto the tape. Well the top one I used a pale pink gel pen and ran two lines of fake stitching on either side. On the peachy one I stamped some hearts in a slighlty darker orangy colour.

I stamped darker green cross stitches onto the green tape and then I used black leaves on the aubergine tape.

I am quite happy with the way they turned out and although you would have to play with patterns and colours I think they will look fabulous on a page.... I think I am feeling a bit of mojo coming back.

Happy Women's Day to all you fabulous women out there.

Monday, 8 August 2011

Any one of you that looks at my blog may have checked out Pinterest and those that know me know that I am absolutely hooked on Pinterest. I love my boards they make me very happy and I have discovered stuff on there that I would not otherwise have found and one of those things is "washi tape".

Here is an example of washi tape and I have no idea what it is, whether it is like cello tape or more like masking tape or something in-between but I have to find it somewhere. In the meantime I bought some masking tape today and I am going to play with some mediums on it. I will let you know how it pans out.

For all you lovely women out there I hope you have a wonderful women's day tomorrow.

I found this on Sophia's blog and thought it would be fun to copy and put my stuff in...

Today I went to Broadacres Spar to buy food for rugby braai at our house.
Today I hoped that I would make it through the bash without over-indulging.
Today I dreamed I was thin again.
Today I forgot to eat breakfast.
Today I heard my daughter invite me for coffee and catch up.
Today I read "Ideas" magazine.
Today I watched my puppy play.
Today I said "Please ask Dad to make "Lemon Curd".
Today I believed I was going to be fine.
Today I felt that I am truly blessed.
Today I wondered what my dogs were thinking.
Today I bought lilac roses for my desk.
Today I cleaned my work desk up.
Today I was me and I am ok with that.

Have a wonderful weekend whatever you are up to, stay warm if it is cold and stay cool if it is hot.

This is a page I did before I went away on my knitting endeavours. I loved the paper and it went really well with the photos. I used a single sketch layout and then flipped it on its side for the other page.

When I learned to crochet the flowers a friend told me she wanted a granny blanket for her studio in her studio colour and this is what I came up with. I was really happy with my attempt and loved the little red flowers that dotted it. Now I only hope that it lasts...:D

I took a close-up photo of one of the squares that had the flower on.

Now I am going to make one for myself and my daughter has been hinting that she would like one for her bed. Loads of stuff to do to keep me out of mischief. I just wish I could get my scrapping mojo back.

And puppy makes four. :D I love my yorkies and while we were away last week we saw some in the pet shop. We left with a strong resolve not to buckle. Three days later she was still there and we took her, and named her Karma. We met at the vet to get her chipped and vaccinated and to collect her papers and she was ours. She spent three days with us at the coast and then flew home with us yesterday. What a little cutie she is - so much spunk.

I took this one of her with my hand so you can see how small she still is. She is 12 weeks and weighs 1.5 kgs.

To say that my other three are a LITTLE put out is an understatement and she took over the house like she owned it and they are not sure how to handle her. We were totally ignored last night but today they seem to have come around a bit but I am still getting the cold shoulder. She, however, is totally unfazed by everything going on around her. We now have 4 dogs and one cat. :D You have to fill the empty nest with something. Hahaha

I am hoping that I get my mojo back real soon I am tired of not producing anything exciting.

I have some fabulous pages from our Thursday Therapy group. These two double pages are from Cher Eltringham who is one of the fastest and most prolific scrappers I have ever met. It amazes me how she rocks up for our scrap and chat, with photos and punches, ribbons, cats eyes and anything else she may want, gets the paper she wants and the page is finished at the end of the three hours. I love to watch her work, and since my mojo has definately left  I am delighted to have these pages of hers to show.

This one is of her son Rich who is a very good swimmer. I love that she packs her pages FULL of photos.

This pages is her 2010 Christmas page and includes a picture of every member of her family. Way to go Cher. I love your pages and thanks once again for coming to my rescue.

I know it has been a while since I last posted again but I just feel like I have the get the stuff around me sorted out before I can move on. I am happy to report that I am almost done and feeling really good about myself again.

I have also started a gratitude journal till the end of the year and then I will start a new one. Today - right here and right now I am grateful for my uniqueness. I am glad that it separates me from the rest of the world.

Why blend in when I was created to stand out.

And so this is what I am doing at the moment. Looking at everything from a different perspective. I am looking forward to being back on track 100%.

Monday, 4 July 2011

I am seriously lacking in any form of crafty mojo at the moment, I feel like nothing excites me at the moment, nothing seems to work out the way I want it to and it all seems rather yuk, and that is not a good place to be. I would like to know how you overcome creative block? I have loads of inspiration all around me, in files, on the computer and in magazines. Could it be that I am a procrastinator? ME? Never!

I had a long time to think about it last week when I was man down in bed for nearly five days. I felt so miserable, but I am happy to report that I am up and about today and feeling tons better except for a VERY sexy voice and a lingering cough. While I was in bed I was trying to come up with ways that would get me excited and motivated again..... nothing! But I am not going to let it get me down.

I am spring cleaning. Today I did the downstairs. I cleaned, cleared and sorted shelves, cupboards and tables. How do we manage to store so much stuff. I did my "give away", "chuck out" or "store" boxes and I cleared out loads of stuff. I will tackle upstairs during the week. While I was doing it I was thinking about something a friend told me. She said that sometimes we have so much stuff we don't know what to do or where to start, and we feel totally overwhelmed because of it. This is definately true for me, and is exactly how I feel right now. I think it is about time I had a clear out of my studio. What about a swap or garage sale? Hmmmmmm something to think about.

However, while I was clearing out I did find something that I absolutely love and something that I want to do more of. I am obsessed by bird houses and this one was a chipboard cutout that I got from a friend. I then assembled, covered and decorated and I just love it.

This is the front of the birdhouse with mirror cardboard for the entrance and a little pot with paper flowers.

I used a plastic moulding painted blue as a bird bath for the one side and a saying on the roof with some flowers.

The back side of the house is decorated with rub-ons, bling and flowers.

Finally, the fourth side has a frame with more mirror cardboard inside as a window and flourishes and butterflies  on the wall and the roof.

I love everything about this birdhouse. The colours, the cottagey feel and it all came together so nicely.

I am really hoping that clearing out and finding things like this will inspire to create something beautiful again.

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend, and that it was cold enough for those of you that live in SA.  Yesterday my dear husband brought me breakfast in bed.... Porridge with chopped apple and a few raisins and cinnamon. So nice on a cold day. Then he also cooked lunch for me - yes he did - he did roast beef, with roast potatoes and onion, yorkshire puddings, gems with peas and corn and then for pudding he got some yummy apple danish in phyllo pastries. The kids came over and we had a seriously nice day.

Then he gave me a little piece of paper all folded up nicely... when I opened it it was an order for another ipad 2. My own... I think he got sick of me hogging the one we have now. To say that I am over the moon is an understatement. I am delighted. Watch this space. :)

I don't know if you collect loads of ephemera from your trips and outings. I do and I love to use them on my pages. I was lucky enough to go to Mashatu with some friends. We stayed at the Rennies camp and had the most amazing time, and anyone who knows me knows that I am so not a bush person. It was fantastic. I took loads of photos and used the brochure from Mashatu as well. This has to be one of my favourite pages because I was one of my favourite trips.

Until tomorrow keep warm.

I am an avid reader and collector of books, much to my husbands dismay. But I only collect books of authors that I love and I love many :) and for Christmas this year he gave me a kindle, which I love, but its not the same as having the book to hold, and smell, and touch and see. I think I have about 800 books on my kindle too. I don't suppose I will ever need to get more books unless of course one of my authors brings out a new one and then I will have to. I have to have complete sets.

This is a page that shows my love of books. I love how it turned out.

I am back again. I know I have been really bad about blogging lately but there has just been so much to do with trying to get my life back together after my computer crashed. I really thought it wouldn't be too bad, but boy was I wrong I couldn't get my emails to work and one of my mails goes through Simon's work server, finally got that sorted out. I could not get my three printers to work, it was either one or the other or none, and without the two I can't scrap. I am still having problems with one of them but I can manage without it for a bit. I think I have now got everything back to normal, here's holding thumbs. I only had Windows XP before and now I have Windows 7 and they are so different. But I think I am all good now.

I have also been really busy knitting and crocheting flowers. I love this new hobby. I want to attempt a jersey.... Huge I know but I am going to try. :D

This is what I have been doing. I started with the gloves and then I decided to try a pair of leg warmers and after a few false starts I had made a pair and they are fabulous. I then started to play around with designs and I am delighted with the results. So were the TT girls who I am happy to say I can trust. I now have orders for some from my dear daughter.

I did have something else to show you in the scrapping line. I love to scrap with loads of photo's and while I am really enjoying doing one page layouts with one photo, I always go back to multiple photos. I did this page of our house once we had moved in and got settled. I really love my house and although it is really too big for the two of us now I have no inclination to move.

This page was done for my garden which I also love - especially at the beginning of summer when everything is in flower.

I had loads of photos that I wanted to use so I created hinged flaps on either side of the page so that they revealed more pictures when they were opened.

I was also able to include my journalling.

There is always a way that you can include more photos onto a page.

Thanks for stopping by. I will try to blog more often now that I am up and running again.

Wednesday, 15 June 2011

One of the reasons that I have been so bad with my daily blogs is that I have had so much going on ... I know I need to say no to some things but when it comes to crafty things I can't. On one of our trips away one of the Girls Susie McWilliams was knitting fingerless gloves and we all loved them and got her to show us how to do it. I was hooked and have made a few pairs and for friends to. I have seen in photos on the net that leg warmers are back in fashion. Not like we wore them in the 80's but peeping out of boots, so I decided to give it a try and I am delighted with the result.

This is a picture of the leg warmers with a flower detail which will stick out above the boot and the fingerless gloves. I will take a picture when I have them on so you can see what they look like on.

We have another holiday tomorrow so if you are one of the lucky ones that has a break tomorrow I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy whatever it is you are going to be doing.
