CSI - CASE #51

Hello Everyone

I am back again :D Here is Case #51 over at CSI one of my favourite websites and the one that makes me challenge and push myself each and every week.

These should be perfect colours to work with but this case pushed me more than any other one so far and I am not sure why... perhaps because I didn't really know what I wanted to scrap. I feel a bit overloaded at the moment with all the run up to Christmas and I sat for two days just staring... then searching the web and galleries for something that made me want to scrap. If this is what it is like to lose your mojo I don't like it.

I scoured my photos for hours trying out different themes - but there was NOTHING! I was feeling really despondent... then as I was browsing I had an AH HA moment, and whipped the page out in no time at all.

I used this sketch from  OUAS another fabulous site, if you don't know them you should go and take a look. They post sketches every two weeks and they are gorgeous. This is their latest one.

Here is how I solved the case.

Scheme - I used all of the colours, even though the flowers look very red in the photo they are actually a deep pink :(
Evidence - Circles, Rhinestones, Texture Paste, Metal and Penwork.
Testimony - 6 word memoir 'It was love at first bite'  Rhinestones added to my spot, Journalled on tags.
My Journalling Reads as follows:

It was love at first bite!
The first thing I noticed was your delicate colouring -
creamy vanilla, your intoxicating smell assaulted my senses.
Oh how I loved the way you felt against my fingers – smooth and
perfectly rounded. The minute I felt my lips on you I closed my
eyes to take it all in. I wanted this moment to last forever.
I moved my tongue all over you wanting to savour your taste
for as long as possible. I was in 7th heaven. Oh my! You were
totally delectable. Bite after bite taking me to heights I never
knew existed.  I was totally and irrevocably in love, and I was
NOT going to share you with anyone, ever! You were mine!

The first time I had ever eaten a macaroon... Why did I wait so long? They are just so amazing. When I went to visit my son when he was living in Cape Town earlier this year we went to the Hout Bay Market which was a stunning trip and they had all kinds of wonderful things there and I tried my first macaroon and I was hooked. So it seemed perfect for this case. Once I had got over my mojo leaving me in the lurch I had loads of fun with this layout.

I went with an off white cardstock, which looks darker in the photo :( and used some texture paste which I tinted using pan pastels, I went with the harlequin design in opposite corners. This cardstock was matted onto the teal cardstock.

I then made a punched border using the sky cardstock. Some Washi tape that had the blue and pink in it, and a piece of tape measure washi tape to show that I ate a dozen of these amazing macaroons. On top of all of that I added a chipboard flower border that I cut up and painted pale pink using my Distress stains.

Because I wanted to go with the six word memoir I chose to do ' It was Love at first bite ' I changed the love for two hearts :D and wrote the rest onto strips of cardstock.

I used chipboard letters for the BITE.

To introduce the circles I cut two doilies using my nestabilities and overlapped them slightly.

Lastly I made two tags to do my journalling onto and tucked then behind the photo mat.

Once I had gotten over my mojo leaving me in the lurch I really really enjoyed this case. I am not really happy with the way the layout photographed because the colours haven't come out right but anyway.. what is is...

Thanks for taking a look :D

Merry Christmas Everyone

I hope that you all had a wonderful time with family and friends. I think I had the best Christmas in a long while. It was just the four of us, my nephew Ryan - who was on his own, my FIL and at the last minute Clint's girlfriend Lin joined us.

This is my kids and I with my FIL... he had such a ball but he was exhausted at the end of the day.

I made my table red and silver and white...

I had two elves photo bombing my Christmas tree. Just look at all those presents.

Clint really made the most amazing food.

We ate all afternoon with long breaks between courses which was really nice.

I will be back tomorrow with my latest CSI case.

Bye for now.

Tuesday, 18 December 2012

Hello Everyone,

I have had such a busy weekend :) I finished some decorations and put my tree up. So now the house is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I will wrap all of my presents tomorrow and put them under the tree.

It was Simon's birthday on Sunday so we went out to lunch with Clint and his new girlfriend Lyn and my FIL. It was nice, very quiet but food was great. Because the public holiday was on a Sunday this year, Monday was declared a holiday so we just chilled yesterday and caught up with some of our series.

The new case file is out at CSI and here it is...

The colours are so soft and pretty.

Here is how I solved the case.

I knew when I took this photo of Hansa that I really wanted to use it. He is such a beautiful boy with a really shite attitude :D I wanted to keep it really simple this week so that the layout was all about the photo.

I used the darker brown for the base page and cut the lighter one in half and used one of my punches along the edge. I then mock sewed around the three sides with a light grey/blue marker, I also added bling to the punched edge.

You can see the sealing wax here too with my initial. I seriously love his attitude. The string in in the tag which is just for show.

On the other corner I used washi and fabric tape in the colours to make these banners. I love these tapes :D I also added some tape measure tape to show my 8 things and the heart because I really really love my cat.

The bottom right hand corner shows the mats for the photo. I used my cuttlebug on one of them just for some texture and then added the flowers and also the transparent flower which has bling on it.

So here's how I solved this case:

SCHEME - I used all of the colours.
EVIDENCE - Ribbon, fabric, something that melts, stitching, stripes, something transparent, string and finally something shiny.
TESTIMONY - 8 Things about my subject

My journalling is as follows.

How to tell if you have CATTITUDE!

1 IGNORE everyone ALL of the time. This is YOUR house and they are lucky that you let them share it with you. Unless of course you want food. Once they have given you food it is OK to smell it then walk away.
2 Do NOT allow closed doors in ANY room. To get a door opened, stand on your hind legs and hammer it with your forepaws. Once said door is opened, it is not necessary to use it. Just stare around for awhile, this is particularly important during very cold, rainy or snowy weather. Swing door should be avoided at ALL cost.
3 When you want to throw up – get to the bed fast. If you can’t make it to the bed try for a chair or the carpet. Shag is especially good for this.
4 Walk in front of humans at all times, darting to and fro and rubbing yourself against their legs, especially if said human is going up or down stairs. You get bonus points if they are carrying anything.
5 Just because you are more handsome, more self possessed, more relaxed, wiser and a better athlete than humans doesn’t mean you are superior to them. You are superior to them for other reasons.
6 Quickly determine which guests hate cats the most, that is the lap you want to sit on. For sitting on laps or rubbing against trouser legs, select fabrics which contrasts well with your fur, ie white furred cats go to black wool clothing.
NOTE: Velvet takes precedence over all other cloth.
7 Always accompany guests to the bathroom. It is not necessary to anything – just sit there and stare. Or meow at the closed door.
8 Remember what was OK or acceptable yesterday is not OK or acceptable today! You need to keep them on their toes. Also humans love gifts so bring them, rats, frogs, birds or lizards and remember to put them on the bed so they find them.

Hello Everyone :)

Nearly halfway through December already :( how are your plans for Christmas going? I find this time of year so hectic. It is DH's birthday on Sunday so I have that before Christmas too and I always seem to be chasing my tail at this time of year. All the parties and dinners and lunches and drinks... so the diet is also out the window for now. I can't cope with that on top of everything else so I will start again in the New Year, and yes I know I say that every year :)

Well I only put up my tree on December 15th and today I was sorting out all my decorations and made a wreath that I bought a while ago. I kept looking at it and thinking - Nah! Well today I just got stuck in and did it and I am happy with how it turned out.

It was a whole bunch of stars that are layered onto a circle. I chose a BoBunny range of Christmas papers to cover it in and started with the big stars, and I stuck them down. Then I went on to the medium ones and covered and placed them and ended up with the small one which were covered and stuck down. I then decided I needed to add some flowers so I made four circle flowers in the left over papers and stuck those down and then I added two gold pointsettia flowers and some words and finally I added a bit of glitter to a couple of the stars and I think it is pretty cool.

I need to re-vamp some of my decorations and wash the rest. I will do that tomorrow plus the last of my shopping, wrap all my presents and put up the tree on Saturday.

I have also done a couple of Challenges over at Colourful Creations two of which were also Christmas related...

The first on was for a Christmas tag which had to include :D
Decorative Ribbon,
Metal Brad
Felt and a Christmas word

Here is my tag

Quick and easy, I covered a tag with the red dot paper and then cut a border in the sentiments papers and added that, the flowers were fussy cut from the paper and added and I also made a circle flower from felt and put the bling brad through the middle. I added a white and a green chiffon flower, and finished it off with bling, and the NOEL and Merry Christmas circle. The other one was an alcohol ink challenge and I decided to use a tin for this challenge.

Also super quick and easy. I used Lettuce, Cranberry and Aqua alcohol inks on the lid. I covered the tin in the same papers as the card, and added the Merry Christmas cut out of the paper, I added a banner going around the corner and added a white flower. Then I added ribbon around the lip of the lid and finished it off with three little Christmas bells. I cut some of the flowers out of the paper and added them to the lid with an aqua lace flower I found in my stash, and a small white flower and finished it off with bling.

Thanks for taking a look.

I am so excited to see that, over at CSI for Case #47, that I have been chosen as their Star Witness for this week. :D  I am over the moon. I have only been a member of this site for about six weeks and I was a bit intimidated at first by all the lovely layouts that I saw in the gallery, but I thought "what the hell, here goes nothing" and I jumped right in and I am so glad that I did, because I really feel like I have grown so much over the last few weeks not only as a person but also as a scrapbooker. So a HUGE thank you to Debbi and her amazing team, for chosing me :D

To top it all I got a message from her to say that I am going to receive a gift from Alicia over at Scrapbook Fantasies :D they sponsor a prize of gorgeous ribbons and trims each week for the Star Witnesses. :D So I am double excited. Thank you Alicia, they have a blog and a store with some great stuff so if you don't know them go and take a look.

OK enough bragging already :D

This week over at Let's Scrap it's reveal day for the new DT and  this was the sketch we were given by the very talented Jennifer Russel, and I really love it.

Here is my layout.

I did the layout on my very cute Karma who is just so willing to let me photograph her... not like my other dogs who just wont co-operate :D I used the Max and Whiskers range from Basic Grey which are really lovely and decided to highlight the turquoise in the papers, and matted my photos, and the two circles and then added the ribbons, and flowers that really pop off the page. I changed all my photos to Sepia so that they were not lost on the busy papers.. I cut the little dog with my silhouette, which was so cool, because I have been a bit nervous of using it. Stupid I know, especially now that I have used it and seen how easy it is.
I finished the layout off with some brown chipboard and added another pop of colour with the red heart and lots of bling and then the stitching. I really enjoyed doing this layout, it was one of those that just fell into place.

Thanks for taking a look.

Hello Everyone,

Well I think I have solved the case ...Here is my layout

Ok so first off I have to tell you that it has taken me just about the whole day, well from 11 - 4 to do this layout and although my page creating process was the same this page is so different from what I normally do that I really took my time with it.

I really loved the colours in this case, for me they have a real beachy feel, but when I read the Testimony I knew what I wanted to do and there was NO beach anywhere :)

I started with a plain white cardstock and a harlequin mask, gesso and an old access card, and randomly spread the gesso over the page, on the top left and bottom rights I just swiped gesso onto the page, then left it to dry. In the meantime I played with paint and mists to get the right colours. I used my new Heidi Swapp mister... Chartreuse which is just gorgeous and I mixed a turquoise and teal paint and randomly swiped it over the page and also added a few splotches, I sprayed the chartreuse on top and then left it to dry a bit before wiping over the whole thing with a wet wipe to remove the paint from the harlequin pattern.

I changes my photo to black and white to match the colours of the page better, matted it onto chartreuse dot paper and slid it into a silver frame which I also swiped with paint and then sanded to distress it. I tied some ribbon onto the frame and matted it onto some blue that I had stamped at the bottom with numbers for time. And then again on chartreuse, which was centered onto the white cardstock.

I then went to work on the bottom right hand corner. I added a transparent Heidi Swapp clock face to some grey paper and added a Tim Holtz silver clock face and tucked it slightly under the blue mat. I had sprayed and painted some of the cogs with the left over paint and added them too, one cog on the 6 because this is the time we usually have tea. I added the flowers and punched a couple of butterflies with my Martha Stewart punch, added the bling and stamped a couple of stamps to reinforce my love of tea.

I also added a couple of strips of pale grey washi take just because I could.

My journalling is hidden on a tag behind the mats and reads...

OK so I am NOT a morning person, truth be told I am not much of any any time person :( but I am especially not a morning person and I can't function until I have had my first cup of tea of the day, and I don't want to have to make it. I am really lucky to have a hubby who gets up early, (well actually that was also written in the rules for a happy marriage :)) he let's the dogs out and makes me tea in bed, and sometimes - just sometimes I get a nice treat with my tea. My favourite is ' Melissa's Muesli Rusks'. This has to be my favourite time of the day. In my bed with a hot cup of tea, surrounded by ALL my babies and for just a while life is PERFECT!

Thanks for taking a look.

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would just show you the reveal for the latest case over at CSI .

I will post my layout as soon as I have done it. Hope you will play along, they really are a lot of fun.

Friday, 30 November 2012

Hello again

Well from being MIA for a week I now have so much to say :D

First of all I have to tell you that I found a great new site Colourful Creations and of course I joined, as you do. I signed up for a couple of the challenges and because of going away I only managed to get one of them done and when I got back I found that it had been chosen as the layout of the week.

This was created for the "My Favourite Things" event, it could be on anything that is a favourite. Of course mine is flowers. I took this photo when I was in Ireland wandering around and it was on the steps up to someones house and I just loved it :D

The papers are Basic Grey, really old ones but they were perfect for this. I used one of Colourful Creations sketches and I think this page is a favourite for me.

So that was the first thing. :D

The second thing is that I have been chosen for the DT over at Let's Scrap again and I am so excited - because I have really grown to love this group and the people in it... and of course the other members of the Design Team. They really are a talented bunch :)

This term I will be working with :

Debby De Wilde
Mindi Brown
Jennifer Russel

and the DT

Cathy VandeBruinhorst (DT Coordinator)
Charlotte van Wyk
Michelle Looi
Jeaunes Viljoen
Kristine Ponte
Eniko DeLisle
Janet Gregory
Heather Corbitt
Tiffany Duvall
Val Thorpe
Martha Sterbens

Some of these girls I have worked with before and I am super excited to be working with them again and some I have not and I am just as excited to get to know them.

Now I have tickets to go and see Lady Gaga tonight, and I am so excited. My DH got us into a box with snacks and drinks... How civilized can you get :D

Hello Everyone,

I have been missing in action for a while I know. My DH and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary on Monday 26th November and he surprised me by taking me away for a two night break to the wonderful Walkersons in Dullstroom.

OMG we look soooo young in our wedding photo :D (Wait we were really young 21 and 22.

Anyway it was a really well planned and thought out break because when we got married we went away to Trout Beck Inn, at Inyanga in Zimbabwe for two nights, which was all we could afford back then. Well Walkersons is a trout farm too and we were there for two nights. It really was very romantic. I also got a beast of a lens for my camera and of course took loads of photos which I will add later.

In keeping with this theme and the new challenge which is out at CSI I decided to do a layout for our anniversary.

Here is the the case file....
The colours are just gorgeous.

Here is my layout.

Rumaging through my stash for the right colours I found this paper by Daisy Bucket called Garden Gate which was perfect for the colours, even though my brown is lighter it is the right shade. I changed the photo of Simon and I to sepia which was perfect.

I chose white for the background page, yes it really is white not pale blue, and I spritzed it with a perfect pearl shimmer, and also used my Tim Holts distress stain to make a couple of paint splotches. The flourishes were stamped with Chestnut Roan colourbox ink.

I made the envelope with one of the papers and then sewed buttons on to make the fastener. This was added to another colour and torn on one side and then matted onto a piece of cream mesh. I added the photo to the front of the envelope.

The banner was created using all the different papers and added to the top left hand corner of the page. I also tore the paper a bit to reveal the pattern paper underneath.

In the bottom right hand corner I added two banners slightly overlapped and then added the word love. I also tied thread around the envelope for a bit of interest, and made a flower by tearing circles, each one a bit bigger than the last, sprayed them with the perfect pearls and scrunched them up and inked the edges. I fastened them with a gold brad and added it to the corner of the envelope, and finished it off with a few more flowers.

On the left hand side of the envelope I made a little circle and matted it on a slightly bigger scalloped one... I love my nestabilities... I really wanted to use this Life is a Journey chippie on this layout as it fit perfectly, then I finished it off by adding some bling to the scalloped edges.

My Journalling is inside the envelope and was a very tongue in cheek etiquette guide to being married to me :d  and goes as follows..

35 (WONDERFUL) Years with me J
The way it really works.

When I met you 35.5 years ago I was
looking for Mr Right, ALWAYS right however
is my job, and my job alone...
What’s mine is mine,
and what’s yours is mine too...
Marriage is all about give and take
you give and I take...
Don’t ever tell me the spark has gone because
this will get you tazored again...
If I ask you if I look as ropey as someone else,
the answer is ALWAYS, NO WAY, you
don’t look a day over 40...
If one of us HAS to win an argument
it has to be me.
Don’t ever go to bed angry, stay up and fight...
I make the rules, ALWAYS, and they are
subject to change at ANY time without
ANY notice.
At all times, what is important is what I
mean not what I say..
If I ask you “does this makes my bum look big”,
the answer is ALWAYS... NO! of course not,
your bum could never look big.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, this
has worked well for the last 35 years,
it sure as hell will work for the next
Life is a journey and if I have to do it with
anyone I want to do it with you :D

I really love these challenges because they are really making me think outside the box and try new things and go where no man has gone before :D... not in this house anyway.

Thanks for taking a look :D

Hello Everyone

I just want to let you know first of that this layout - which was for the Scrap your Stash Challenge over at Lets Scrap - was chosen by Kristine as the IOTW, and I am so happy. Whilst we scrap for ourselves it is always nice to know that you can inspire others. I always take a great deal of thought and time and preparation when I do a page and I think it is nice to have that acknowledged :D Well I like it anyway. So thank you Kristine.

Here are a couple of close ups

I painted the birdcage black and used my smooches on the birds painting them yellow and green. I attached a chain to the birdcage up to the top of the page and then added a flower.

I layered the round photo onto a scalloped white circle and raised it up with foam take. The journalling was written onto strips and then I added a little butterfly using my Martha Stewart punch.

I like to scrap the little things and for me one of those little things that make me very happy are fresh flowers in my studio. This particular bunch had these most beautiful roses in them. Needless to say I always take photos of my flowers and have a folder of flowers on my desktop to rival any board on Pinterest :) Nothing like life's guilty pleasures.

This is another of the Scrap your stash challenges and these gorgeous photos were taken at a shop called Avoca which is just outside Dublin. The gardens (and the shop) were just so beautiful, I could have spent the whole day there sitting outside drinking tea and eating scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, just like a real grown up ;)

Here is a close up of the buttons. Aren't they just lovely. The chipboard 'Pure Joy" was one I had in my stash that matched my colours perfectly. Don't you just love when that happens :D

I took a chipboard arrow and covered it with purple cardstock and added another button. These challenges are great because they stipulate what you must use on your layout so you can use up the stuff that has been lying around forever.

The papers I used for this layout are from Making Memories and were so perfect for my photos.

I have more but I will post some more tomorrow. I don't want to spoil you all ;) have a wonderful relaxing evening.
