It's Frrrriiiiiiiiday... and it's a public holiday here in SA too so that is double cool.

Einat is giving away some fabulous blog candy in honour of her 40th birthday and her blog's second birthday so head on over to Scrappin' It and check it out, enter and you may be the lucky winner.

It's getting really busy over at Let's Scrap while we get prepared of our International Scrapping Month, there are loads of challenges, games and prizes up for grabs so go on over and check it out. Hope to see you taking part.

The latest challenge has been posted too and so I can show you my page for it... this was the sketch they gave us ...

and this is my take on it. I have only used plain card stock for this challenge. I don't know why really - perhaps because the flowers were so beautiful that I didn't want anything to take away from that. So I used pink, green and blue which I picked up from the photos and kept the layout really simple. Just the way I like it :D

I also have the next couple of photos I used for the April Photo-A-Day challenge
Day 24 - Something I am grateful for...

My family, they are my world, and I love that we are so close, that they choose to spend time with us because they want to and not because they have to and I pray everyday that that never changes. I love you guys to the moon and back.

Day 25 - Looking down...

I really love to take random photos and on my photo challenge at let's scrap one of the photos was 'smooth' and so this worked well for both.

Day 26 - Black and white...

I love books, I love to read them and I love to collect them... these are some of the newer ones that I got.

Day 27 - Somewhere I went...

Simon and I went to our apartment at the coast. It is such a nice position and I love that we have such a wonderful view of the sea. I like nothing more than to sit on the verandah and just watch the sea.

I have more good news too :D I love good news. I entered a challenge over at Scrap Africa it was the Rainbow challenge and I entered the card with the rainbow hearts that I have already posted in here and I was chosen as one of the favourites and asked to be a guest designer on their blog. I am so excited and am busy working on my project for that now... so watch this space.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

Hello Everyone

It's getting very chilly here in Johannesburg and I am very grateful that I have so much scrapping stuff to keep me inside :D

This is a page I did for Challenge 134, over at Let's Scrap and that was... to be inspired by listening to the theme song from Phantom of the Opera. I loved this show. I have seen it so many times and I never get tired of it. I also have the music on my ipod which I play a lot of the time that I am working. So I did this page.

I used a cream background which I spritzed with walnut ink and a mini mister with just water and perfect pearl. I used a strip of adhesive canvas tape in a lovely shade of sage and then used a strip of red ribbon and a strip of brown Bazzil that I punched with my favourite punch. I changed the picture to sepia and then mounted it on the cream and red and layered it on the brown. I added the love title in chipboard and the flowers. I punched a few hearts in red and one in brown and then finished it off with the love ticket, a heart, a flower and a small piece of red ribbon. I journalled along the outline of the page and the journalling reads...

"After 35 years of being married to me... with more than his fair share of ups and downs, this man of mine loves me. He has shown me that love can endure. I am so grateful to him for always being in my corner. My Rock!"

That was my inspiration from the Phantom of the Opera... that if you have love you can overcome anything.

The next project I did was also from Let's Scrap and it was from the QOTW, which was on "Prototype" scrapbooking and the examples given were of scrapbooking done on acetate. I had never heard of it and although I have done an acrylic album which was see through I had never done a page on acetate, so I had to give it a try.

This is what I did. First of all I put some blobs of alcohol ink on the acetate in the colours of my paper... lettuce and cranberry with a touch of lemonade. I used drops of blending solution to spread the alcohol inks around.

I then did my layout using a photo of my very cute God Daughter, Olivia.... I did my journalling on a tag and tucked it behind the mat. I put a small green photo corner in the bottom right hand corner and then some banners and a flower in the top left hand corner.

I wanted to give this page a really whimsical feel to it so I doodled lines around all the elements on the page.
and this is what I ended up with....

Although I enjoyed working on the acetate I am not sure if I will do a lot of it. I think that put in an album with other pages it will loose its impact. I photographed it again with a sheet of white behind it so you can see the alcohol inks a bit better, and I guess if you are going to put paper behind it then you may as well just scrap on normal cardstock.

I do like to try different things then at least when I say I don't like it I can tell you why.

Thanks for taking a look.

Hello Everyone

I just wanted to show you a card I made for the Scrap Africa : Challenge #3

The challenge was RAINBOW... my favourite colour.

I hardly ever make cards, so I decided to make a card for this challenge. I kept it very simple. Cream card with   two row of rainbow hearts and a chipboard sentiment which I left cream. I wanted the rainbow to speak for itself. :D

Have I told you lately that Thursday is my favourite day of the week ??? Had a lovely morning with Cher while Ilse sorted out her house and Desi is lounging around Disney somewhere. Miss you Desi, come home all is forgiven.

Hope you had a good Thursday too.

Hello Everyone

Happy Humpday... yes we are over the hump and downhill towards the weekend. I have been so busy but no scrapping or crafts of any kind, but I do want to share with you that I won the Challenge #9 for the Crafting Ireland Magazine so go over and take a look. I have already posted the page on here. It was the one in Pinks and Turquoise with my two babies playing by the pool.

I have some projects on the go so hopefully after TT tomorrow I will have something to post for you :D

I have done my Photo a day though and here it is.

Day 18 - Hair

Although I have always had short hair (yes - all my life) I have always coloured my hair, every colour under the sun, then a couple of years ago I developed an allergy to hair dyes. (That really sucked) Anyway I persevered for a time but the reactions got so bad that I had to stop dying it. My hair is quite grey and to me very unattractive but there was nothing I could do so I decided to grow it... I managed to get it to just below my ears, sort of all one length - I said sort of :P And finally I got so tired of it I hated it long so I chopped it all off and these were the photos that I took of myself with my BB. I then converted to black and white in Picassa and they have some cool new features and this was the one I chose. I think it looks pretty cool.

I'll be back tomorrow...

Hello Everyone,

Well I have entered another challenge, this time at Scrap Africa take a look at their blog there is some great stuff on it. Anyway they have a challenge on at the moment and this is the sketch that they posted. I love clean lines, and it was a single page and I am really getting into them now so I had to play along.

Here is what I did with it. I have always loved this photo of a tiny little chapel out in the middle of nowhere on the Yorkshire Moors so I was delighted to be able to use it.

This is a quick post today but I will be back tomorrow with more. I haven't posted my photo a day for a while but I have been doing them. Here is today's.

Day 16 - Flower

I always have fresh flowers on my desk and this week I have daisies and roses.... so pretty.

Hello Everyone

Well needless to say it is Saturday again and I feel like I haven't stopped since we got back from the coast.

On Thursday the TT girls met for Breakfast but no scrapping :( Desi is in the States with her family and the others were busy but it was lovely to catch up as I really miss them when I am away. I had so much to sort out afterwards, shopping, catching up on mail and all the happenings at Let's Scrap and the day kind of got away from me.

Friday was pretty much the same. We decided to go to movies (the TT girls that is) to see The Hunger Games which I really wanted to see -  but I just found it to hectic and I couldn't watch it :( it upset me so much I had to leave - anyway the others really enjoyed it. Then we met another friend for lunch, and I only got home at 4.00pm and another day gone.

So today I have spent the day sitting at my computer catching up on everything - including my blog :)

Here is the second Challenge from the Let's Scrap website.

And my take on the sketch. Photos are from my son. Him and his varsity friend Brad did a road trip round SA last year and when they were in Cape Town managed to get in a game of golf and he sent me stunning photos of their holiday and I couldn't resist using these one.

I went through my stash and found this wonderful Cloud 9 Design paper - Travel. which was perfect for my page. I only used the 'Argyle" paper and the rest was Bazzill card stock. The embellishments were from Celebr8 and I just painted them cream and then diamond glazed them. I am so happy with the way the page turned out.

This week I also did a  Let's Scrap Tutorial which you can check out. I was a bit stressed that I wouldn't get it right but I think it turned out pretty good. Take a look I think you will like it too.

So all in all it has been a very busy week. I am also taking over the Let's Photograph Group at Let's Scrap so while you are there take a look and come and join the fun.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Hello Everyone

Seems like forever ago that I was last here. It was 10 day ago... that is in forever. We drove down this time which was actually quite nice. My DH is not the most patient traveller and once he gets in a car he just wants to get there no toilet breaks, no food or drink breaks and certainly NO photo shoot breaks.... This time, however, we dawdled down and I even stopped to get some photos - which I still have to edit and post.

We had fabulous weather, bar one day when it rained, it was super sunny. I do always feel a little out of the loop down there without my internet ;)

We drove home yesterday after stopping in Durban to visit my friend Tiff and my God Daughter... Livvie... she is such a cutie and a very happy little girl.

We arrived home at about 5:30 to a full house. My brother from Cape Town is here on business and staying with us. My DD - Storm - who is back from visiting her brother in Cape Town and her friend, all for dinner. :D
We received such a welcome from our four yorkies who really miss us when we are gone...

Anyway I am back again now.

So I am sure I told you all that I had been chosen to be one of the new DT over at Let's Scrap I can now show you the layout that I submitted...This was the layout we were given.

Here is my take on the layout. I did this one literally. The photos of are of the only three girl cousins in our family on both sides... the rest are all boys...8 boys in all.

I am just about all caught up with stuff now and I will have more to post tomorrow, including the new challenge photos.

Happy Scrapping!

Monday, 2 April 2012

Hello Everyone and Monday - you came back very fast - It has been a very busy few days for me. My term over at Let's Scrap has started and I wanted to get ahead on the challenges that are due and also I have a tutorial coming up on the 13th  and DH decided he wanted to go down to the coast for Easter. Well to say that got me in a spin is a bit of an understatement :) any way the tutorial is done and I have done the next two challenges which is ok, so I feel like I have a little breathing space.

There is a new challenge out from Fat Mum Slim for April - here it is if any of you are interested. I am going to do it again because I really think it is helping me with my photographs. If you go to her blog everyone who is doing it is linked back to her and it's nice to see other peoples take on the same topic.

Day 1 - My Reflection

Day 2 - Colour

Anyone who knows me knows I don't have a favourite colour - if I had to choose one it would have to be RAINBOW. These gorgeous flowers are on my desk, aren't I lucky. It's my treat to myself every week.

I entered a challenge over at A Cherry on Top and I did it because it is a Becky Fleck's Pagemaps and I love her work.

I decided the go with an Easter theme, I found the photo of the little bunny on the internet but the other two are mine, and the journalling reads - 10 Things I learned from the Easter Bunny :D

We don't do Easter at home since the kids moved out. I give them an Easter egg but this year they are both in Cape Town so I played on my own.

Thanks for stopping by!
